Ka Hao Indigenous Entrepreneurship Online Training

Through a LinkedIn post, I saw the Ka Hao Programme being promoted – an opportunity to apply for an online learning e-commerce program with an education scholarship offer worth – $30,570!

Why would anyone not attempt to apply? I filled out the form and so fortunate to receive an email back telling me that I have been selected!

Just made the cut I guess =) seeing that many other participants got in a couple of weeks earlier! That was back end of November, or early December 2022.

It’s March now and we are near to the end of the modules and program it has been a challenging but exciting learning journey!

There are participants from 4 or 5 different countries including New Zealand, Australia, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea. A great team of mentors and trainers including 2 from Papua New Guinea who constantly keep us motivated and connected through the various platforms available.

The Training sessions include 2 online sessions a week, going through the modules of the training and an empowerment session where special digital entrepreneurs share their insights, experiences, tips on their e-commerce journey.

The aim of the eCommerce Programme is to get participants to a stage where they fully understand the essentials of setting up and eCommerce system that is fully functional and able to generate sales to improve or begin the online journey of eCommerce entrepreneurship.

Assignments include: Videos to watch, and activities to be done – the activities include the various processes and steps to setting up your eCommerce system.

As part of advertising and digital marketing – learning how to be confident in engaging in video content for video marketing is one essential task to be able to move on to modules.

For many who are not confident to speak in front of the camera, the program includes creating videos of yourself twice a week – share it on social media to gain momentum and confidence.

You can view the videos created through the PNGICTMeri Youtube Channel – Here’s one on take-away points from Samson Korowali entrepreneur journey story.

I guess the most fun and new thing I’ve learnt through this program is being able to set up and use SHOPIFY!

Setting up a 1-page site which is a shopping site to sell our service /product.

The main service being offered through the PNGICTMeri Shopify Shop is the #GirlsInICTechWeek Learning Program – and one new thing learnt is creating stack offers – what additional things to be included in the package with the main service offered that would attract more people to buy your product and increase the value of your overall service!

Some limitations with SHOPIFY – trying to find a payment gateway that is acceptable in Papua New Guinea that allows for our PNG Currency and linking Facebook to Shopify!

While we move into the digital space, infrastructure and systems within our country still need to be sorted to fully utilise eCommerce tools online, but always there are ways and alternate methods available which can be able to function in a blended mode.

Ka Hao eCommerce Program is great learning program suitable for indigenous entrepreneurs and next time the program calls for participants – be sure to subscribe to this site to be updated!
